Nimbin Mardigrass
Mission
End Cannabis Prohibition. Annual Australian Cannabis law reform rally and gathering on the first weekend of May.
General Information
For those who came in late…
“In March 1993, after a decade of raids and arrests, and a particularly intensive recent period of random street searches, arrests and rough treatment, a spontaneous demonstration erupted, and marched to the police station, pelting it with eggs and toilet paper. Negative newspaper reports followed.

.
Nimbin Hemp Embassy (formerly “Nimbin Hemp”) members decided to hold a peaceful protest in a non-confrontational atmosphere, that ordinary people could comfortably attend, on May 1, 1993.
That was the first MardiGrass. (The spelling is that officially used by the MardiGrass Organising Body) The MOB was formed to manage the event and consists entirely of volunteers. The intention is to hold a MardiGrass every year until prohibition ends.” www.nimbinmardigrass.com

The NZ Drug Foundation is backing a ‘Yes’ vote - find out why here.
We’ll be voting on the Government’s Cannabis Legalisation and Control Bill, which puts regulation in place to minimise the social and health harms of cannabis. The Bill has a special focus on protecting young New Zealanders.
This is the best chance New Zealand has to put public health controls around how we manage cannabis in our country.

Testing for Alcohol can prove both presence and impairment and fair enough. BUT the current drug driving test ONLY proves presence but fails epicly to prove beyond any reasonable doubt of impairment. Police test for Cannabis, Cocaine and methamphetamine only??? then say if detected presence then automatically presume impairment without proof??? Dodgy at best but worse case of totally lopsided judicial process, probably the last straw.

LCQ 600 MEMBERS IN 10 daysLEGALISE CANNABIS QLD (Party) MEETS DEADLINE - 600 MEMBERS IN 10 days
It was a very tight deadline but the cannabis community came together big time on this.
Yesterday the newly formed Legalise Cannabis Qld (Party) submitted its registration paperwork and should know in about 6 weeks it they will be become a registered minor party in time for the October election.
After the Qld Govt. rejected the public's call for legalising cannabis via parliamentary petition that contained 13,000 signatories asking for legalisation earlier this year, The People are fighting back.
"We are fed up, with not being listen to, " said Deb Lynch, Vice President of the Party's Steering Committee. "We are putting the Govt. and Opposition on notice. We intend to stand candidates in as many electorates as possible, and there is no shortage of hands up."
"With a couple of other minor parties in the registration pipeline already, the People will at least get some choice this time round. The LCQ Party are aiming for a seat or two on the cross bench and hope to be a part of the winds of change that are sweeping across the country. People have had a gutful of the 2 party system," she said.
In her position as MCUA of Australia President, Ms Lynch says she hears every day, from patients being disadvantaged by high cost of imported products and patients being arrested.
"The only way to get affordable access for many of these people is to allow them to grow their own – just as they are doing now - but without the axe hanging over their heads. Currently we have 3 senior women from the MCUA, myself included, facing criminal court for producing and possessing medicine, that gives them a better quality of life. This is not in the pubic interest. "
Ms Lynch is intending to nominate for the seat of Mermaid Beach. The Party has candidates with their hands up already. "We don’t expect to win Govt., but if you can get over 600 Queenslanders to join a political party in 10 days, imagine how many more will have their say in the privacy of the ballot box."
The party has a green lean. They want to see hemp farming opened up and believe in agriculture over mining. Many value added products can be manufactured from hemp including plant based "plastics" and light carbon neutral building materials. All creating jobs and wealth for our State and its economy, according to Ms Lynch.
Cannabis has been decriminalised fully for personal use in the ACT since Jan and the sky has not fallen in. Millions of people use cannabis every day. " Imagine what a boost it would be for our ailing post covid tourist industry."

How insulting to Humanity is to have to ask that a part of nature NOT be considered illegal by those inhumane parts of nature that claim to be of authority?
The HEMP Party is advising voters to choose their own order of preference. HEMP believes the strategy is best for uniting opposition towards prohibition and treating Cannabis as a separate issue, as HEMP believes it is the common sense approach to separate Cannabis from other substances in policy terms.

A 40-year-old arrest for possession of a small amount of marijuana could prevent even the most accomplished and committed Australian citizens from volunteering for everything from school canteen duty, to serving on charity boards or working for Meals on Wheels.
As hundreds of thousands of baby boomers reach their retirement and have the time, energy and experience to make valuable contributions in the stretched volunteer sector, “crimes” from their past may act as a barrier to participation.
UniSA Adjunct Professor of Law, Rick Sarre says the National Police Check, a prerequisite for many volunteer roles, not only reports a person’s convictions, it even reports findings of guilt where no convictions are recorded.
An example, Prof Sarre says, would be an arrest and plea of guilty in the 1970s for “possession of a controlled substance” (having a small amount of marijuana for personal use) where the penalty was a fine and a good behaviour bond.
“There is no doubt that Police Checks are an important part of the process and help to ensure the safety and protection of minors and the most vulnerable – no one wants volunteers with a shady past to slip through the system,” Prof Sarre says.
“But the current system is eliminating people who have a great deal to contribute, due to the retention of minor offences that were committed in different times and under different community standards.”
Prof Sarre says a decade ago, law reformers in South Australia ensured the State joined other jurisdictions in offering a second chance for offenders who had turned over a new leaf.
“The Spent Convictions Act 2009 (SA) allows for certain convictions (including ‘findings of guilt’) to be excised from a person’s criminal record if there has been no re-offending for 10 consecutive years,” he says.
“After a decade, ‘spent’ convictions do not count for the purposes of calculating subsequent offences, and ‘spent’ findings of guilt do not have to be disclosed when questions are asked about a person’s criminal history.
“But there is an anomaly here – even without a conviction and even though the ‘finding of guilt’ may be for a minor transgression, a person’s misstep remains on their National Police Check for life and their character will still be considered suspect, despite what may be decades of positive and productive of achievements and contributions.”
Prof Sarre says the National Police Check anomaly needs to be rectified immediately.
“We need to ask now why this sort of guilty plea, especially, say, for something that later became an ‘expiable’ offence (akin to a speeding ticket), remains on a national police computer record, available for anyone in Australia who is entitled to request that one’s “disclosable history” be resurrected,” he says.
“The remedy is simple. All minor offences where no conviction was recorded need to be automatically excised from the National Police Check after 10 years.”

The Hemp SolutionThis 10 chapter feature length documentary explores all the issues surrounding cannabis hemp - its fascinating history, it's thousands of uses, the economic and cultural forces behind its prohibition, the healing benefits of cannabinoids like THC and CBD and how humanity can benefit from a new harmonious relationship with this amazing plant.
Filmmaker Sol Ramana-Clarke takes viewers on a stunning visual journey from hemp's origins in the Himalayas where it is still being used for food, fibre and medicine, to Europe, the USA and Australia where industrial hemp is being rediscovered, and new research is finding many uses for cannabis medicine including fighting cancer, pain relief, reducing inflammation and much more.
Also examined is the controversy around marijuana, the war on drugs and alternative policy options taking root around the world. Top experts interviewed include: Dr Andrew Weil, Dr. Lester Grinspoon, Dr. Andrew Katelaris, and Terence McKenna.
This 92 minute Australian production is the second update of the award winning film "The Hemp Revolution" - first released theatrically in 1995 to 100 cities worldwide.

The Hemp Solution - Chapter 3 - Hemp Textiles
Shows cannabis hemp's leading role as a source of textile fibre for sails and clothing for hundreds of years before 1900. Today we are seeing a revival of this environmentally friendly and strong versatile fibre for a wide range of fashionable clothes and other items.

The Hemp Solution - Chapter 4 - Composites & Building Materials
Cannabis hemp has the longest and strongest fibers in the plant kingdom and is 70% cellulose. It is therefore an excellent base for making all manner of composite products, bio-plastics and "hempcrete" houses.

The Hemp Solution - Chapter 5 - Hemp Seed Oil & Hemp Food
In Chapter 5, we learn the remarkable health profiles of hemp seed and hemp seed oil. A close second to soybean as a source of vegetarian protein, hemp seed is way ahead as a source of minerals and essential fatty acids. These EFAs are found in the oil that can be pressed out of the seed and include Omega 3, 6 and 9 in a perfect ratio.

The Hemp Solution - Chapter 6 - Nepal & Around the World
In chapter 6, we journey to far Western Nepal where the people there are using their ancient cannabis crop for food, rope, woven textiles and medicine. A new project is also extracting hemp seed oil and making paper from this amazingly versatile plant. An explosion of cannabis hemp industries in now happening around the world.

The Hemp Solution - Chapter 7 - Cannabis Medicine
In Chapter 7, it is seen that prohibition is still preventing cannabis medicine from helping millions of potential patients in many parts of the world, but in recent years, many places have legalised medical cannabis including 15 US states, Canada and many European countries.
Scientific research is making remarkable discoveries about cannabinoids found in cannabis as well as in the endocannabinoid system in our bodies. The healing potential of cannabis continues to expand beyond our expectations.
US government research has discovered that THC kills cancer cells and people like Canada's Rick Simpson have found that concentrated cannabis oil has cured cancer and other chronic illnesses.
Marijuana medicine is still meeting tough resistance from the medical and legal establishment but the tide is turning and this natural medicine is taking its rightful place as a master healer.

The Hemp Solution - Chapter 8 - Marujuana & The War on Drugs
In Chapter 8, we initially go back thousands of years and look at how various ancient cultures used cannabis as a religious sacrament. In the 1930's cannabis was demonised, renamed "marijuana" and prohibited.
The consequences of the war on drugs is examined as well as the alternative policy options taking root around the world. Experts also discuss the effects of cannabis on human consciousness and how this can be both a negative or a positive influence.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=NNWcV7R0g18
The Hemp Solution - Chapter 9 - Cannabis Hemp Prohibition
In Chapter 9 we are taken back to the 1930s where a campaign to demonise marijuana was led by Harry Anslinger and expressed in the movie "Reefer Madness". But were there hidden economic factors behind the prohibition of marijuana in 1937 which also included the prohibition of industrial hemp - a major industry for all of American history up to that point? The ramifications of this demonisation are still being felt today, but the world is beginning to wake up.

If we were allowed home-grown for personal use across Australia, we could save billions in health care and policing costs.
Redirected funding from law enforcement, which has failed disastrously in social and financial terms, would be better spent on natural disaster relief and essential services.
