Hemp Embassy

Nimbin Hemp Embassy

The HEMP Embassy runs an information centre/ paraphernalia shop in Nimbin all year round to fund our fight against cannabis laws. This is staffed by rostered volunteers who live locally, or are on an extended visit.

If you do not live close enough, there is still an opening. Every year, on the first weekend in May, we have the Nimbin MardiGrass Drug Law Reform Rally. To do this takes lots of volunteers who live locally OR are attending the MardiGrass. We have volunteers from all over the world who come to help make MardiGrass possible, not just stand and watch. It’s fantastic to see. Feel free to come and joint in.

If you ever come to Australia, drop in to the HEMP Embassy in Nimbin. Try to make it coincide with MardiGrass, if u can….otherwise, come anyway, or oppose stupid laws wherever you are, and you will be helping us all…

That is the Norml state of affairs, but if you feel you have special skills that could help the cause, or see a need that isn’t catered to, then communicate and contribute.

Send us your hemp related writings or art!

“Prohibition was introduced as a fraud; it has been nursed as a fraud. It is wrapped in the livery of Heaven, but it comes to serve the devil. It comes to regulate by law our appetites and our daily lives. It comes to tear down liberty and build up fanaticism, hypocrisy, and intolerance. It comes to confiscate by legislative decree the property of many of our fellow citizens. It comes to send spies, detectives, and informers into our homes; to have us arrested and carried before courts and condemned to fines and imprisonments. It comes to dissipate the sunlight of happiness, peace, and prosperity in which we are now living and to fill our land with alienations, estrangements, and bitterness. It comes to bring us evil –only evil– and that continually. Let us rise in our might as one and overwhelm it with such indignation that we shall never hear of it again as long as grass grows and water runs.”
Roger Q. Mills of Texas, 1887.

OFFICIAL 2020 NIMBIN MARDIGRASS STATEMENT

"We've reluctantly decided to postpone MardiGrass 1-3 May 2020 due to the uncertain times surrounding the corona virus. The plan is to let things settle and move the dates forward once we are in the clear. Tickets will be fully refunded or carried over to the next MardiGrass. Scomo leaves us no choice anyway and lots of people need to make travel arrangements. So hopefully see you all later in the year, or at the worst, May 2021. We may do some MardiGrass events online over the Mayday weekend so keep an eye out for that as we go truly global."

New laws come into effect today in New South Wales which mean that if you test positive to the presence of Cannabis (even if you are totally unimpaired and haven't had anything in 24 hours) you will lose your license immediately for 3 months.

Trichomes, from the Greek meaning ‘growth of hair,’ act as an evolutionary shield, protecting the plant and its seeds from the dangers of its environment, allowing it to reproduce. These adhesive sprouts form a protective layer against offensive insects, preventing them from reaching the surface of the plant. #justlegaliseit

The chemicals in the trichomes make cannabis less palatable to hungry animals and can inhibit the growth of some types of fungus. The resin also helps to insulate the plant from high wind and low humidity, and acts as a natural ‘sun-screen’ in protecting against UV-B light rays.

But since trichomes contain euphoric properties attractive to humans, it may be man who has had the most influence on the plants’ development through many years of favoring strains that consistently produce more of these gooey resin heads.

This could be yours and grown in your own backyard for you and your family's health and well-being. Cannabis is medicinal but the law says that growing it at home is a crime. So you have to pay for expensive pharmaceutical drugs that are not as good and definitely not as natural as a herb.

We need to grow our own legal medicine, at least six plants each for adults over 18, and in our own backyard.

Aussies can safely vote for legal Cannabis in this election. At the polling booth you can privately make a mark for the plant that should never have been made illegal.

There are a couple of million Aussie voters who enjoy Cannabis regularly and they are not real criminals. #ausvotes #justlegaliseit

Since the last election there are no more senate group voting tickets. Now we have how to vote cards that are a guide only.

Some parties have printed cards or made diagrams online displaying their 'preferences' in the current form.

HEMP asks for your primary vote and leaves the decision up to you on who fills your six above the line on the senate ballot paper.

Roadside Drug Testing, is a nightmare for Cannabis users and the police know it, they are targeting places like Nimbin. How can we possibly introduce a meaningful medical Cannabis program in Australia while no one can drive for days after using the herb?

In fact THC stays in your system for weeks if not months, unlike all other drugs. Testing for merely the presence of Cannabis is ridiculously unfair, it should be about driver impairment.

Imagine if you weren’t allowed to drive if you use pharmaceutical pills?

Along with sniffer dogs RDT has dramatically altered drug trends in the country. Pot is out and pills are in thanks to our drug policies. Cannabis has never killed anyone in ten thousand years of use and needs to be separated and treated completely differently to the other illegal drugs.

We need to be allowed to grow our own medicine, at least six plants each for adults over 18, and in our own backyard. Cannabis law changes are spreading overseas like wildfire yet here we keep building new jails and our arrest rates continue the same.

On the ticket for the Senate in NSW, we have two of the nation’s Cannabis heavy weights: Dr Andrew Katelaris and Michael Balderstone. The doctor knocked the criminal justice system for six last year, when he proved that it was necessary for him to provide patients with unsanctioned Cannabis oil.

While Mr Balderstone is the bedrock of Cannabis activism in this country. He’s both the HEMP Party president and the head of the Nimbin HEMP Embassy.

MAYDAY MARCH TO END THE WAR ON DRUG TOMORROW FROM LISMORE COURT HOUSE AT 1 PM

Nimbin's MardiGrass organisers say they are ready for the big crowds expected to descend on the village this weekend.

"We start tomorrow with our annual Mayday March from Lismore Court House to invite our local Members of Parliament to MardiGrass and remind them we are just like them, only we prefer weed and vote HEMP," said Michael Balderstone president of the HEMP Party and NSW Senate candidate.

"Janelle Saffin is sympathetic to at least medical use we know but is the National Party's Kevin Hogan ready to shrug off the Nat's drizabone and support us? We'll find out tomorrow. Greens local Dan Reid might join us and march along now the Greens say that pot is okay and they've come out of the Cannabis closet."

"The big issue now for Cannabis users is if any of the major political parties realise that roadside drug testing is preventing medical Cannabis even getting off the ground and until we decide to focus on impairment as the driving issue, the rest of it is hollow words.

Next month in May, in NSW, there are new laws to be enacted which mean an instant on the spot loss of ones drivers licence for three months if your saliva registers positive that you have Cannabis in your system. And by now I think everyone must know Cannabis is uniquely fat soluble and stays in your system for a month or two.
So who is going to speak out against such ridiculous unfairness?"

HEMP Party: Better Cannabis - Better Cannabis legislation will improve our health, nutrition, policing and the annual budget.

Cannabis Prohibition has been a total failure and we have to stop strategies like sniffer dogs, Roadside Drug Testing and laws that have dramatically altered drug use trends in favour of undetectable powders, pills and expensive addictive pharmaceuticals.

Aussies can safely vote for legal Cannabis in this election and no one will know, you won't lose your job.
