Hemp Embassy

Nimbin Hemp Embassy

The HEMP Embassy runs an information centre/ paraphernalia shop in Nimbin all year round to fund our fight against cannabis laws. This is staffed by rostered volunteers who live locally, or are on an extended visit.

If you do not live close enough, there is still an opening. Every year, on the first weekend in May, we have the Nimbin MardiGrass Drug Law Reform Rally. To do this takes lots of volunteers who live locally OR are attending the MardiGrass. We have volunteers from all over the world who come to help make MardiGrass possible, not just stand and watch. It’s fantastic to see. Feel free to come and joint in.

If you ever come to Australia, drop in to the HEMP Embassy in Nimbin. Try to make it coincide with MardiGrass, if u can….otherwise, come anyway, or oppose stupid laws wherever you are, and you will be helping us all…

That is the Norml state of affairs, but if you feel you have special skills that could help the cause, or see a need that isn’t catered to, then communicate and contribute.

Send us your hemp related writings or art!

.

“Prohibition was introduced as a fraud; it has been nursed as a fraud. It is wrapped in the livery of Heaven, but it comes to serve the devil. It comes to regulate by law our appetites and our daily lives. It comes to tear down liberty and build up fanaticism, hypocrisy, and intolerance. It comes to confiscate by legislative decree the property of many of our fellow citizens. It comes to send spies, detectives, and informers into our homes; to have us arrested and carried before courts and condemned to fines and imprisonments. It comes to dissipate the sunlight of happiness, peace, and prosperity in which we are now living and to fill our land with alienations, estrangements, and bitterness. It comes to bring us evil –only evil– and that continually. Let us rise in our might as one and overwhelm it with such indignation that we shall never hear of it again as long as grass grows and water runs.”
Roger Q. Mills of Texas, 1887.

In March 1993, after a decade of raids and arrests, and a particularly intensive recent period of random street searches, arrests and rough treatment, a spontaneous demonstration erupted, and marched to the police station, pelting it with eggs and toilet paper. Negative newspaper reports followed. Nimbin Hemp Embassy (formerly "Nimbin Hemp") members decided to hold a peaceful protest in a non-confrontational atmosphere, that ordinary people could comfortably attend, on 1 May 1993. Done Cannabis is also part of my spiritual practice as a Rastafarian and this is accepted under the new Jamaican cannabis laws because in the old testament of the Bible Genesis Chapter 1 Verse 29 KJV "And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed: to you it shall be for meat" Cannabis is for the meat of this sacred body/vessel.

sounds all very draconian in it's scope and goals..,but what are you going to do with a Victoria?

I think they got it wrong. Free the herb!

Phytocannabinoid-derived preparations can have a beneficial impact on those experiencing a severe immune reaction in which the body releases too many cytokines into the blood too quickly, an important role in the clinical deterioration of those affected by COVID-19.

'Cytokine Storm' is a major factor in the occurrence of Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) — the main cause of mortality in COVID-19 patients.

I grew up in the country and was sent to boarding school at a young age which I found traumatic.
After discovering Cannabis my migraines miraculously disappeared.
When I moved to Nimbin 35 years ago I discovered it was a refugee camp from the war on drugs.
As I learnt more about this war against a plant that is a fantastic safe medicine my fury knew no bounds at such injustice.
I believe if we are allowed to grow our own supply it can save billions in health costs and help millions enjoy a higher quality of life.

Trichomes, from the Greek meaning ‘growth of hair,’ act as an evolutionary shield, protecting the plant and its seeds from the dangers of its environment, allowing it to reproduce. These adhesive sprouts form a protective layer against offensive insects, preventing them from reaching the surface of the plant. #justlegaliseit

The chemicals in the trichomes make cannabis less palatable to hungry animals and can inhibit the growth of some types of fungus. The resin also helps to insulate the plant from high wind and low humidity, and acts as a natural ‘sun-screen’ in protecting against UV-B light rays.

But since trichomes contain euphoric properties attractive to humans, it may be man who has had the most influence on the plants’ development through many years of favoring strains that consistently produce more of these gooey resin heads.

This could be yours and grown in your own backyard for you and your family's health and well-being. Cannabis is medicinal but the law says that growing it at home is a crime. So you have to pay for expensive pharmaceutical drugs that are not as good and definitely not as natural as a herb.

We need to grow our own legal medicine, at least six plants each for adults over 18, and in our own backyard.

Aussies can safely vote for legal Cannabis in this election. At the polling booth you can privately make a mark for the plant that should never have been made illegal.

There are a couple of million Aussie voters who enjoy Cannabis regularly and they are not real criminals. #ausvotes #justlegaliseit

Some parties have printed cards or made diagrams online displaying their 'preferences' in the current form.

HEMP asks for your primary vote and leaves the decision up to you on who fills your six above the line on the senate ballot paper.

Roadside Drug Testing, is a nightmare for Cannabis users and the police know it, they are targeting places like Nimbin. How can we possibly introduce a meaningful medical Cannabis program in Australia while no one can drive for days after using the herb?

In fact THC stays in your system for weeks if not months, unlike all other drugs. Testing for merely the presence of Cannabis is ridiculously unfair, it should be about driver impairment.

Imagine if you weren’t allowed to drive if you use pharmaceutical pills?

Along with sniffer dogs RDT has dramatically altered drug trends in the country. Pot is out and pills are in thanks to our drug policies. Cannabis has never killed anyone in ten thousand years of use and needs to be separated and treated completely differently to the other illegal drugs.

We need to be allowed to grow our own medicine, at least six plants each for adults over 18, and in our own backyard. Cannabis law changes are spreading overseas like wildfire yet here we keep building new jails and our arrest rates continue the same.
