Ziggi Browning – Production Manager and master of the selfie pano.

While the rest of the team is working remotely, production manager Ziggi Browning is holding the fort at Echo Publications World Headquarters in Mullum.

'The Echo art room on deadline day with almost nobody in it has an eerie vibe. I'd take working with a cacophony of nonsense in the background from those rascals any day over this physical distancing palaver.
Hard work is much more fun when shared with your friends.

Tamzin Smyth – Graphic artist and Web Designer

Having lived off-grid in the Northern Rivers for 17 years I became pretty good at isolation. You might say it’s my superpower. That, and always choosing exactly the right sized Tupperware for the leftovers!

I know, I know, I should get out more...only I can’t NOW CAN I?

When not laying down killer layouts for The Echo or web designs for environmental and social justice organizations, I’m really happy and productive in my own company, with way too many ways to fill my time including clay works, painting, my eternal granny squares crocheting, growing anything that I can in the sandy soil of Suffolk Park, and trying to make friends with the ants, who, I think may inherit the earth. Or at least this house.

Catch me on Insta @tamsin.smyth

Hans Lovejoy – Byron Shire Echo editor, journalist, op-ed writer, awesome bass player…

After being chained to a cubicle for eons, a one in a 100-year virus disrupted everything for Hans – so he went for a walk and got to remind himself of why this place is so special and why it's worth protecting.

But I love being able to look out my window at the treetops...

'Working from home has been a wild ride.
Learning how to do what I've been doing for years in a totally different way, it's been a massive learning experience.
I'm very proud of everyone I work with and their ability to adapt to the situation and communicate with each other through this transitional time.'

'Working from home? I'm still ironing out the WIFI kinks – I am on the phone to Telstra daily. Love the Echo and believe that researched media is so important in these random days.'

'I'm trying to stay healthy while working on the Byron Health, Healing and Venue blogs in between cutting films!
It's great to be seeing more animals and less humans while working from home.
Too many screens are barely enough.
New glasses arrived just in time!'

'Working from home is my normal with my freelance graphic design business. I am used to having online meetings and sending things back and forth, even just did a Coronavirus leaflet to inform Gypsies, boaties and travellers in the Uk. What’s not normal is doing The Echo from home but it’s kind of cute having online meetings and seeing everyone on video. Plus I get to work in my onesie and nobody can even tell.

'I've acquired a whole lot of new office colleagues in my children and partner as The Echo and Echonetdaily has moved to home based production. We will be bringing you all the latest news on Echonetdaily and in The Echo about what is going on as we all try and maintain our sanity in these self-isolating times.'
Mandy Nolan – Journalist, Comedian & Entertainment Editor
#TheEchoAtHome

‘Working from home isn’t an issue for me because I always work from home. Often I’m getting up at 5 am in hotel rooms around the country to log on and write about entertainment in the Byron Shire. Thats when I had a career as an entertainer..now I’m an out of work entertainer writing about ….entertainment that doesn’t really exist in the way it did before. We’re having to innovate and keep sane! The Echo has always been a vital community voice, and I think its never been more important to keep our community together.'
From one small business to others
- so many of you are coming up with new ways to operate or do business at the moment.
Supporting your staff with continued employment and safely supplying our community with much-needed things.
It’s not business as usual...
As there is so much change at the moment we want our readers to be able to easily find out what is still operating (and how) locally
- so we have a special page in next week’s #ByronShireEcho and going forward with local businesses letting the community know what they are doing.

If you’d like to be part of this get in touch today.

We did reach out to a lot of people via email yesterday and this morning but if you haven’t received it, DM us ere or at h@echopublications Instagram or message us below.

Thanks to everyone who is jumping on board already.

‘I am actually loving being at home.
I’m an introvert by nature so the less time I can spend out in the world amongst other humans, the better as far as I’m concerned.
Living over near The Channon has meant that it’s a long way for me to come into the office to work, so this way it means I get to sleep in.
You’ve got to look for the silver lining.
