Bodhi Tree Retreat Centre

Bodhi Tree Forest Monastery is situated on ninety-five acres of beautiful land at Tullera, fifteen minutes from Lismore, in the Northern Rivers of New South Wales, Australia. This land is a sanctuary and hermitage, site works and development are being planned. Bodhi Tree Forest Monastery has been been extensively regenerating the rain forest on the property and have now planted well over 4,000 local rain forest trees and plants, which are now thriving!

Mission
Bodhi Tree Forest Monastery & Vipassana Retreat Centre endeavours to create supportive conditions for ordained and lay practitioners to undertake long term intensive Vipassana meditation practice, which are hard to find in western countries. This will assist people to penetrate the heart of the Buddha’s teachings. The Buddha Dharma Education Association is currently fundraising to build a meditation retreat complex on its land at Bodhi Tree Forest Monastery, Tullera, New South Wales, Australia.

FREE Loving-kindness Audio CD-ROM, by Ven. Pannyavaro

On this CD are the Buddhas teachings on Loving-kindness. It includes the chanting of the Metta Sutta, an explanation of its practice; the basic technique and a guided Loving-kindness meditation given by Ven Pannyavaro, an Australian monk and founder of BuddhaNet.net as well as founder and resident monk at Bodhi Tree Forest Monastery, Northern NSW Australia.

Loving-kindness is a meditation practice, which brings about positive attitudinal changes as it systematically develops the quality of loving-acceptance. It acts, as it were, as a form of self-psychotherapy, a way of healing the troubled mind to free it from its pain and confusion.

Among all Buddhist meditations, loving-kindness has the benefit of sweetening and changing old habituated negative patterns of mind. In this way, it overcomes all forms of ill will, self-hate and hostility towards others. So it is known as a Guardian Meditation as it protects you and others from harm.

β€’ This CD is Free at BuddhaNet.net at this link: http://www.buddhanet.net/metta_cd.htm

The Third Stage of Bodhi Tree Monastery Retreat Centre Build β€˜Satipatthana Lodge’ a Six-Bed Accommodation Unit.

1st and 2nd stages of the project are completed: a Multipurpose Hall, Pagoda and a 2-bedroom unit. The 3rd stage of the Retreat Complex is the building of a 6-bed room accommodation unit. This gives us the capacity to accommodate meditators for retreats in the Satipatthana Vipassana tradition of Buddhism.

The funds needed for the 6-bed accommodation unit is $AUS 168,000 plus $AUS 62,593 for an external bathroom. It can be divided into a single donation of approximately 38k for a bedroom or two donors’ offering 19k for one bedroom. The bathroom would be included in this cost.

We offer this unique opportunity for donors to make β€˜merit’ by contributing towards this project, as your donation will benefit generations of meditators who come to practice Satipatthana Vipassana Meditation at Bodhi Tree.

Sabrina Syed The Aussie way!

In 2006 we acquired 95 acres (36.91 hectares) of land in the Northern Rivers of New South Wales for a Buddhist Monastery and a Community Retreat Centre. The land was in a degraded state with invasive trees and weeds. Our aim since arriving has been to restore the subtropical rainforest that originally covered this region of Australia. So in doing so we're providing the habitat for the native fauna as well. In this way Bodhi Tree Forest Monastery has becom a wildlife sanctuary as well as functioning as a Vipassana retreat centre.

With the help of volunteers and some grants, we have planted 8,000 trees since 2006. While most have been rainforest trees, we have also planted Koala food trees to give refuge to the local Koala population.

We appeal for donations towards the cost of planting 2,000 rainforest trees in the spring of 2019. As the founder and resident monk of Bodhi Tree, I'm appealing for help to cover the cost of the materials - seedlings, fertilisers, mulch, and stakes for 2,000 trees, which will be planted by volunteers in the spring of 2019.

This material will cost approximately $AUS 6,500. So any and every contribution to help us plant these trees is greatly appreciated! If we are going to help the planet to survive, we urgently need to plant more trees and invite you to join us: www.gofundme.com/bodhi-tree039s-rainforest-restoration

Your Aid We Deliver - Cambodia Buddhist Library Project

I write a story below for you to imagine the size of your great work in Cambodia.

After visiting one of the Buddhist Library schools, I was about to leave and saw this small child of 8 years crying and wanting to go home during the school time. I asked Pheap to ask why it was. The child said that he has been having a terrible toothache in the past 3 days and cannot bear it anymore so was going home.

We too had a look and his cheek was swollen. We were in Takeo and our own nearest clinic was 60 km away. Then we offered the principal to take him to a private clinic and took the child to his home. We found he was living with his mom and grandma.

With the mothers permission we took him to a private clinic and got his problem solved where he had a big cavity exposing the nerve. After learning that we too were running clinics, the good dentist charged only $2.50 for the injection and waived $7.50. The cost to do a similar job was $10.

Paget, we have treated 100,000 in the Buddhist Library Dental Clinics until now, so managed to relive the pain of 100,000. Cost wise it is nearly a $1 million worth of service. This is from only our 3 dental clinics. Imagine the benefits of the water tanks and the free education provided!

Flooding at Bodhi Tree Forest Monastery - I'm posting this video of our normally gentle creek at Bodhi Tree Forest Monastery, which due to Cyclone Debbie became a raging river. While the resulting damage has been somewhat difficult for the monastery it is mild by comparison with the stress and lost experienced by the people of the City of Lismore from the severe flooding. So certainly while there are so many natural disasters that need help, I'd ask you to lend a hand and support to the people of Lismore and the communities of the Northern Rivers of New South Wales with the massive clean up, thank you.

Most species are extremely slow growing depending on local environmental conditions. In any event, grass trees are often very long-lived; some are estimated to be 350 to 450 years old!

Zane the Koala finds sanctuary at Bodhi Tree - Release of ‘Zane The Koala’ At Bodhi Tree Forest Monastery

The “Friends of the Koala” in Lismore, Northern New South Wales, Australia rescued this juvenile male koala as dogs had been harassing it. Zane the Koala was released into the sanctuary of Bodhi Tree Forest Monastery in Tullera where we are now so please to be looking after him.

Since 2006, we have planted approximately 800 koala food trees on 6 hectares of our land for the restoration of the koala habitat as well as 7000 local rainforest trees on 31.91 hectares (95 acres) of the monastery's land. While we’re building a Vipassana retreat centre we are also endeavouring to make a contribution to the restoration of this planet and the well-being of all its inhabitants – which now includes Zane The Koala!
